Mr John Daines

(1952 – 2019)

The funeral service for Mr John Daines will be taking place on Wednesday 14th August at 12:30pm, at Holy Trinity Church, Rayleigh. – All members of the community are welcome to attend.

The Victorian Horse Drawn Hearse procession will be walked from his home and will enter the High Street from Castle Road, Rayleigh at approximately 12:15pm, taking John on his last journey through the High Street. We will pause at the Town Clock before arriving for the service at Holy Trinity Church, Rayleigh at 12:30pm.

It is our hope that members of the public and people working in the High Street will take the opportunity to say goodbye to John as we make our way to the Church.

memorial donations

A community group are already raising funds to create a local memorial in memory of John.  Should anyone wish to donate towards the cost of a town memorial for John you can donate online here. Funds raised will be passed to the John Daines Committee which is being overseen by Rayleigh residents Clare Buckle and Kevin Hadlow.

Should donations exceed the cost of a memorial any surplus funds will be sent to support the work of Mind.

Final Resting Place

John’s parents are buried in a private grave in Rayleigh Cemetery.  We understand from a close friend of John’s that he would visit the cemetery regularly and leave mementos on their grave. His wish was that his ashes be buried in the grave with his parents, this will take place at a later date.
