Funeral Services During Covid-19
In response to the Covid-19 outbreak there have been a number of changes to the death registration and funeral procedures in the UK. We have outlined the updates below, along with the current restrictions imposed on funeral services.
Our offices will be staffed as usual and we will remain contactable 24 hours a day. Should you need to get in touch, we ask that you do so initially by phone or email.
While we continue to support families with covid19 related deaths we ask you to kindly
note the following:
- We are currently performing consultations by telephone or Zoom.
- We ask that any attendance to our offices is not made without an appointment.

Chapel of Rest
You are still welcome to visit our chapel of rest. We would ask that limited numbers of just three people attend at one time.
Those who are self isolating / in a vulnerable group are not to attend the chapel.
An appointment must be made

The procedure for registering a death has been updated:
Registrations in Essex are now taking place over the phone.
- Death Registration in Essex (except Southend): 0845 603 7632
- Death Registration Southend: 01702 215009
Appointments can also be made online
The Registrar will request the funeral directors email address. Our email address is: firstname.lastname@example.org
Instead of the family having to collect the medical certificate of death, Hospital and Community Doctors will now send this electronically to the Registrars offices.
Payments for the certificates will be taken by phone and the Death certificate will be posted to the family. They will not be sent electronically. (Death Certificate £11.00 each.)
The Registrar’s Certificate of Burial or Cremation (The Green Form) will be issued electronically to the Funeral Director and Crematorium/Cemetery. This will allow the funeral director to proceed with the funeral arrangements.
