Our History
A.R. Adams (Funeral Directors) Ltd has been established since 1900, originally serving the community of Poplar in the East End of London. In 1915 Archibald Richard Adams expanded his funeral business into Thundersley and later Rayleigh. As the local funeral director, he was a prominent member of both the Essex and East End Community.
A.R.Adams had offices and stables in Poplar, Leytonstone, Ilford, Thundersley and Rayleigh. Archibald died in 1949 and it is our understanding that the London offices were sold off and just the Essex offices were kept. The business fell to the hands of the 2nd generation and upon return from war Archibald’s son, also Archibald, took over the reins of the company.
These pages are archive of snippets and stories we have managed to find regarding the company’s history. If you can recall any historical tales of A.R.Adams please contact us as we’d love to hear from you.
